Disney Lorcana: Latest News, Updates, Bans, and Upcoming Sets

Disney Lorcana continues to make waves in the trading card game world with exciting new sets, bold gameplay updates, and its first-ever card bans. Whether you’re a seasoned Illumineer or just stepping into the magical inklands, here’s everything you need to know about what’s new in the world of Disney Lorcana as of Spring 2025.

The First Competitive Card Bans

For the first time since its launch, Disney Lorcana has taken a firm stance on balancing the game by banning two cards from the Core Constructed format:

  • Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker

  • Fortisphere

These bans, announced on April 8, 2025, were made due to their powerful synergy, particularly within Sapphire decks. Players were using these cards to generate an overwhelming tempo advantage, making games unbalanced and extremely cfrustrating.

What Does This Mean for Players?

  • These cards are banned only in competitive Core Constructed formats.

  • They remain legal in casual and friendly play, so you can still enjoy them with your friends around the kitchen table.

  • The ban indicates that Ravensburger is actively listening to the competitive community and fanbase as a whole and is committed to keeping the game healthy and diverse.

"The bans don’t nerf the fun—they level the playing field." – Every tournament organizer ever.

Archazia’s Island – The Latest Set

Released in local game stores on March 7, 2025, and widely available at retail from March 21, the seventh set of Disney Lorcana, titled Archazia’s Island, brings a vibrant new chapter to the game’s ever-expanding universe.

What’s New in Archazia’s Island?

  • Dual-Ink Cards: Some cards now use two ink types, giving players more flexibility and deck-building options.

  • Fresh Faces: Characters from beloved films like Lady and the Tramp, The Aristocats, Bolt, and others make their Lorcana debut.

  • New Starter Decks:

    • Ruby & Sapphire – Featuring Belle and The Beast

    • Amethyst & Steel – Featuring Jafar and Iago

There’s also a delightful Lilo-themed Gift Set that includes exclusive foil cards and boosters, perfect for collectors and fans of Lilo & Stitch.

🧞 Coming Soon: Reign of Jafar (Set 8)

While details remain under wraps, expect more villainous mechanics, enchanting new cards, and possibly a few snake-themed surprises.
