Drawn to Death: Building Your Nekusar, The MindRazer COmmander Deck

If you love Magic: The Gathering and enjoy watching your opponents suffer in the most ironic way possible, then Nekusar, the Mind Razer is the commander deck for you. Nekusar isn’t just about drawing cards—he’s about making your opponents regret drawing them.

Nekusar the Mindrazer

This deck is all about turning card draw into pain, overwhelming the board with forced draws, and watching your opponents burn through their life totals. So, let’s dive into how to build the ultimate Nekusar deck, plus five must-have cards that will make your opponents hate you (in the best way).

Step 1: Make ‘Em Draw (Whether They Want To or Not)

Nekusar's ability punishes opponents for drawing, so the more you force them to draw, the faster they drop. Look for cards that spread the love and crank up card draw for everyone, such as:

  • Howling Mine – A classic that makes everyone draw an extra card per turn.

  • Font of Mythos – Doubles down on forced draws with two extra per turn.

  • Horn of Greed – Play a land, draw a card, lose a life.

The goal? Drown your opponents in card draw while Nekusar slowly chips away at their life total.

Step 2: Make It Hurt

Now that your opponents are drawing cards non-stop, it’s time to turn that card draw into a nightmare. Nekusar himself deals damage when they draw, but let’s double, triple, or quadruple that pain:

  • Underworld Dreams – Classic black enchantment that punishes every draw.

  • Fate Unraveler – Nekusar’s evil twin, dealing more damage for every draw.

  • Fiery Emancipation – Triple damage. Need I say more?

Step 3: Keep Yourself Alive

Since you’re making everyone draw cards, you also need to make sure you don’t run out of gas. Some of the best ways to keep yourself going include:

  • Psychosis Crawler – Turns your own card draws into damage for quick takedowns.

  • Jace’s Archivist – Repeated “Wheel” effects to control hands leaving your opponents no time to set up.

  • Reliquary Tower – Because you don’t want to discard all those lovely cards.

Five Must-Have Cards for a Nekusar Deck

If you’re building Nekusar, these five cards should be at the top of your list:

Teferi's Puzzle Box

1. Teferi’s Puzzle Box

This card is absolute chaos. Every turn, everyone shuffles their hand into their deck and draws a new one. With Nekusar out, that’s guaranteed damage every turn. Bonus: It ruins all your opponents’ carefully laid plans!

Tergrid, God of Fright

2. Tergrid, God of Fright

Why only wheel when you can also deal? All those cards that players are discarding can be yours for the low price of 5 mana! Plus she's a 4/5.

Polluted Bonds

3. Polluted Bonds

If you thought losing life for drawing made your opponents mad, just wait until they lose life for playing lands which they need to do literally everything. Polluted Bonds also gives you a life boost to help you overcome the ire that is sure to come your way.

Anvil of Bogarden

4. Anvil of Bogarden

Anvil of Bogarden not only increases your card draw, it gives your opponents unlimited hand sizes. Why is this good? When they discard and draw, they draw more losing more life in the process.

The Locust God

5. The Locust God

Every time you draw a card, you get a 1/1 flying insect. With all the card draw you’re forcing, this card can quickly build an unstoppable army and a trove of chump blockers to stave off attacks while you deal all of your passive damage.

Your Nekusar Commander Deck: Pure Chaos, Pure Fun

A Nekusar deck isn’t just about winning—it’s about watching your opponents squirm as their own card draws destroy them. The best part? Since everyone is drawing extra cards, they’ll think they’re getting ahead… until it’s too late. Force the draw, force the discard, build your army, and have fun!
