Another Secret Lair Festival in a Box has been announced, this time including all the goodies exclusive to MagicCon Chicago 2025! Full details have not been released but from the promotional image we can pull out a few of the cards that will be included, so lets take a look.
The Alt Art Foils
Here we can see 5 foil alternate art cards, which is standard for Festival in a Box. The Vegas MagicCon box included Li'l Legends versions Omnath, Locus of Creation, Reya Dawnbringer, Orvar, the All-form, Lavinia, Azorius Renegade, and Drana, The Last Bloodchief. The cards this time around look to be as follows.
All Will Be One
A populate decks dream. All Will Be One, a $14 mythic enchantment, deals damage to a choice of targets whenever you add a counter to a player or permanent, and yes, this includes Planeswalker loyalty counters. It is the lynchpin of the box theme and pairs really well with, Animar, Soul of Elements, as a commander but is also used in Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin who adds +1/+1 counters for ping damage.
Mulldrifter
Mulldrifter is an interesting inclusion. A widely reprinted, low-value uncommon is a decent draw outlet in graveyard recursion or bounce deck. Though the art is cool, putting it in a box like this which generally has a fairly high price tag is a bit of a mystery.
Animar, Soul of Elements
with over 16,000 user-created decks on EDHRec, Animar is a widely used and powerful commander. The stoner sloth art on the card is sure to be extremely popular. You can ramp Animar up fast with low-cost creatures to lower the cost of your high drops and control the board.
Benevolent Hydra
Another counter outlet, Benevolent Hydra ramps the number of counters you place on other creatures. This makes All Will Be One a huge pain fairly quickly. It is also a fairly high-value card, clocking in currently at around $13.50.
Forgotten Ancient
Forgotten Ancient lets you place counters +1/+1 counters on it when your opponents cast spells and lets you move them to other creatures on your upkeep. So when Benevolent Hydra turns that 1 counter into 10, All Will Be One deals 10 damage, then you can move those counters? You can see how this combo can be pretty formidable.
Festival in a Box - Mystery Booster Box 2
The other known inclusion looks to be The First Sliver! Just kidding. It looks like we'll get another Mystery Booster 2 box which is absolutely welcome. I have opened one from the first MagicCon Secret Lair drop and was more than pleased with my pulls. Getting another chance to fill out my collection with a box full of new white boarders, Future Sight prints, and cards from The List will help me fill out my commander decks.
This Festival in a Box will drop on February 3rd and you can check out the Secret Lair website and sign up to be notified when more information goes live.
